  1. Didn’t really want to make a new topic so I thought I would post this here. After nearly 4 years of hard work, literal blood, sweat and tears, failure and self doubt, finally came the culmination of a black belt for my son a couple weeks ago. I’m soooo fucking proud of him. I can’t even describe how great it felt seeing his Instructor finally tie that black belt around him after years of taking him to karate 4 days a week and endless tournaments and wiping away all of the blood, tears and snot off him from sparring matches, wins, losses and failed tests.

  3. Lol! Speaking of babies shooting out (yeah right) , my wife gave birth to our son yesterday. I'm the highest on life I've ever been right now. I've probably had about 5 hours sleep in the last 48 but I feel amazing. My wife is all good and recovering amazingly. What a trip.

  4. My kid turned into a teenager and isn't a dick. My second movie, first theatrical release came out, as did the first TV show I worked on. I paid off almost all my debt. I secured two big deals that have booked me work through 2019. And I asked my gf of 8 years to marry me. (But I havent told my family so if we're friends on FB don't say anything).

  5. ... that I sort of wrote. But I can't say the name of it because I'm not the credited writer... actually there were about 6 writers, but the WGA cuts you off after awhile. It wasn't my idea, or my story, or even my dialog, I was purely a doctor on this one where they had two different scripts about a month out from shooting (no really, that happens) and I was the guy who figured out how to put them together. So those original writers get the credit... but you know-- I got paid, got in the union, and got to live in LONDON for a month next door to where Star Wars was filming. It HAS had a

  7. My big stressor is gone. I had applied for a job that I completely forgot about. They called me this week, I did a phone interview and got to meet with the hiring managers today. After the interview, they asked me to stick around while they talked. The came back offering me a better job than the one I had applied for, and $15,000 a year more than I make now, along with working 8-4:15 Monday-Friday. And my commute is going from 45 minutes down to 15 minutes. So I could work an hour over each day and still get home 2 hours earlier than my current job. I accepted it on the spot.

  9. I'll put the TL;DR version up front: I've lost weight! So my senior year of undergrad and first year of law school saw me balloon up in weight. I was pretty much sedentary, would eat out of boredom, all that jazz which generally leads to "not weighing what you used to." I had always been pretty fit, and active, right up until the point where I wasn't then it went down hill in a hurry. I've got pretty broad shoulders which helped, uh, shoulder the weight for a while but eventually not even that helped. I peaked out at around 230 probably (and look even heavier than that in some pictures). The

  11. So, the Girl Trip this year was mostly business for me since my parents' death. Mom passed on December 6th, so now, I own a condo in Florida. (Let me know if you want a cheap vacation in Seminole 4 miles from the beach). I haven't been through probate yet and now I have to file not only my own but my Mom's taxes. Anyway, I had their ashes scattered together from a little plane. My Dad had been a pilot in the Air Force and it was his wish-my Mom just wanted to be with him. They took pics and video for me and it was very emotional, unexpectedly. The whole package had to be biodegradabl

  14. Well, so far, the new dosages and new med is working. I don't have those dark episodes of depression, like I had a couple weeks ago. I am starting to feel back to normal, or what should be normal. I actually feel myself laughing more, too, which has to be a good sign. i also have been giving CBD hard candy a try, too. Just being able to share my experience here makes me feel better too, so thank you guys for bending an ear.

  18. I got engaged to my girlfriend Megan on Sunday! I met Megan when we were short on girls on night at soccer and one of my friends brought her to sub (at the field pictured). I immediately had a crush on her and finally worked up the courage to ask her out several months later. We've spent a LOT of time at that stadium over the years, and she played collegiately there, so it was a fitting venue for the big day. Even though I haven't talked too much about my girlfriend on here, it still wouldn't feel quite right if I didn't let my Nightly family know about my big news. I've known (in varyi

  19. Dude-- that is amazing. No small feat. I've been trading the same 35 pounds for about a decade, up and down. I'm on a downswing now, and I'm hoping I can finally punch through the wall and then keep things down. Do you want to share what you did to do it? I like this thread. I've had a pretty good year, and everyone seems to hate on the 2016. But-- - I bought a house - My ADD kid seems to be adjusting to middle school really well (I was very nervous about this) - I sold my first original script - I'm in the final steps of selling a TV show, which if it gets past the pilot stage

  21. In the last year I've received three raises, had a role change, am considered part of department "management" (despite not having a job title change, which I'm fighting for), and have a sneaking suspicion I'm being groomed for a real promotion. It's all been kinda overwhelming since I've never been anything but a bottom of the barrel peon at work, but I think I'm adapting mostly pretty well. It's not much to brag about but it's something. Bragging feels uncomfortable anyway. I'm not doing this thread right.

  27. By some of you no less!! But I believe that I've definitely decided to go back to school...again. I was doing rather well before Luke was born, but then I decided to take a break because newborn, but I never went back. That kid just turned 4. So I looked into it. I'm actually only 6 classes away from wrapping up an Associate of Arts. I need: a 1 hour phys ed class Texas Government a speech/communication class a creative arts class (art history, art/music/dance/theater appreciation) a language/philosophy/culture class (mostly lit, philosophy, and humanities classes) and another science

  29. Nightly stopped being a popculture discussion board years ago, it's down to just a handful of people who like talking to each other about movies and stuff. Trolls have all outed and flamed themselves out. None of us are interested in being an angst-filled anonymous place to yell at each other. So you come back 15 years later, still acting like a teenage edgelord, and you're mad that we're now just a small group of friends who are are adults talking about adult things, and it's our fault and we suck? Have you really run out of places to troll and you'd hoped we'd take your bait? If y

  32. Things are mostly good for me. I got my first shot two weeks ago so that's nice. We're hoping that by the end of summer Covid will be in control enough that we can put my kid into preschool. My husband has been a stay at home dad for most of the last year now, and that's been a hard transition for him but he's actually really enjoying it now. I did have a total covid anxiety dream the other night where I went over to a friends house and she had like 100 people over with no masks on, so yay anxiety! I'm looking foward to seeing my family without a mask on. I'm hopeful that we'll get

  33. I have an adult / late ASC/D diagnosis. I am 46, but got the diagnosis 11 years ago this spring. Every diagnosis is different in terms of difficulty with various things, so I have bad executive dysfunction (maybe ADD)* and any sensory overload issues are related to touch instead of hearing (Hobbes might have forgotten more about autism than I know), but a kind of immaturity is there and I am very self-conscious about it (other people's maturity often makes me anxious), and I know it is unlikely to change. (edit, point being don't focus on someone's immaturity, but rather their not be

I don't say it enough to those I talk to but this place really did make quite the impact on my life for the better. You all helped me escape an abusive relationship when some of my family were continually pressuring me to stay, you all tolerated my ridiculous poorly drawn comics and silly board stories, and of course I met Link here. 35. Dude, enough. That's a ****ty thing to say about somebody who has worked her ass off for decades. She's produced every classic Speilberg ever made. We get it, you're mad about the EU. Is there a way for you to be part of these conversations and contribute without using every single post to say the same thing? I say this as a friend, it's tired. Stop it. Your opinion is valid, but you're not having a conversation a lot of the time, you're just trolling over and over.

  36. Keep it up. I think I have read close to 1,000 of those entries. I wish you had a random article function on the webpage. My son just turned one month. I know that this is totally 0% my doing, but he is quite the content and curious little boy. He cries, but once he gets what he wants (which right now is only to be fed) he immediately calms down. He was laying on my chest today and we both ripped ass at the same. It was magical. Me, my mom, and son. He has his own crack security detail that are stationed outside of his room 24/7.

  37. After nearly eight years of grad school, the University of Colorado decided to go ahead and give me a PhD. For those curious, my dissertation was on elementary classroom practices which are shown to increase the long-term academic achievement and involvement in STEM content areas of underrepresented populations in STEM. I was "promoted" to overseeing my school district's highly gifted student program. This was sold to me as a promotion despite not having a raise. There is a fun sentence in my contract reading "other administrative duties as needed". I guess leading a district-wide progra
