The archives are currently set so that only very well established members can see them. It splits the difference between the people who are insanely obsessed with the past and people who realize that if the archives ever got out, it would absolutely destroy lives.

How handy are you around the house? Do you repair things, or do you hire someone? Or do you just ditch it and buy new? Our washer conked out and wouldn’t drain. Gave an error code about the motor not working, and the estimated cost of repair was at least $300 if I hired someone. Did some YouTube searches and found that the most likely cause was a broken sensor, because the drum would turn, it’d just stop during the drain cycle. So I ordered the replacement part for $10, took the washer apart, and fixed it. For $300 I feel like I would have just bought something new instead of repairing it

Nowadays, things are deliberately made so that they can't be taken apart, so you'll spend more money buying a new thing. When my computer speakers began sounding crackly, I looked for a way to take them apart, thinking maybe it was just a loose wire. But, neither the speakers nor the subwoofer were designed to be got into. I avoid crowds. I work from home. I’m masked when I’m out of the house. I wash my hands like a crazy man, and I don’t have any auto-immune disorders. Somehow I’m still sick with pneumonia at a level that I’ve gone from “I think I can just work through this” to “I really hope I don’t have to go to the hospital”. My fever is up to 102 with fever reducing drugs, and my chest hurts like crazy. It’s not COVID, thankfully, but it still sucks and I’m just super pissed.

I know you like or liked Jeeps, Tank. Are Jeeps a symbol for more “adventurous” people? I’m pondering because my wife is suddenly heartset on a Jeep. lol I’m over here like Dreyfuss in Close Encounters wondering if it means something. I think the better question is why are there archives at all

For me it depends on the likelihood of major damage if I make a mistake. YouTube can teach almost anything. Fixing a wax seal for the toilet? Sure! Replacing my water heater? Nope.

Yeah, water stuff I'm probably going to call a plumber. HVAC stuff I don't touch, either (which is funny because I'm essentially an HVAC engineer). I can do the math but heck if I know which part broke. My husband is pretty darn good at electrical but also knows his limits. This dumbass we bought a house from did a lot of DIY electrical and did not do it well. We may hire an electrician to redo the house at some point because the codes from 1995 are not very modern and we have barely any neutral wires anywhere required for smart home stuff. I am not afraid to do some work. I've done some repairs around the condo myself. I think the thing that pisses me off the most is I have to hire certain ppl to come fix my stuff because physically I can't lift it or move it on my own. Like when I had to replace the sink faucet I found I just didn't have the upper arm strength to reach up and turn two corroded wing nuts to get the old faucet off. Oh and there was the time I lost my temper changing the shower cartridge out and hit a pipe with my hammer and broke it.

I'm reasonably handy, but I don't have to be because my husband is the shit. We live reasonably well for our income level because of how much money we don't have to spend on home and auto repairs. Trevor saves us thousands of dollars each year in labor charges.

My wife is a lot like you. For me, I’ve got some set rules for when I’m sick enough to not work. Mostly now they run around being able to talk, since my job is almost all talking on the phone. So if I can’t talk or if my fever is 102.5 or higher, that’s when it’s time to just rest and not die. An example of not being able to talk is having a loud, extended barking cough session after every three words.

Lady two is a director of some note from another country. We connected over a project, met in person, and hit it off at an insane level.
