  1. Past hour
  2. I would definitely get shot anywhere else other than Seattle. I keep my middle finger to myself, but I yell WTF asshole a lot.
  3. All I know is in 1984 Kyle Reese told Sara Connor that the T-800's were surrounded by living tissue complete with sweat, bad breath, everything that made it impossible to differentiate from humans. Sara said they don't make things like that yet. Kyle said not for another 40 years. So here we are.
  4. Not to derail an entertainment thread, but my neighbour just used chat GPT to draft a business to business legal contract, with some particular a nieche clauses and such that his regular lawyers were going to charge him £400 to do. Just to copy paste his name onto a document that they'd have pre prepared minus a few particulars. First we were worried for the arts , but I think we're safe for a variety of reasons. But maaaaaan there is an ai storm coming for legal and beaurocatic institutions and jobs. White collar upper middle class gonna be stressing
  5. I thought using a battle royal to crown a new women's champion meant they were planning on going with something new. Instead we get Becky again.
  6. Today
  7. Just to close the loop on this discussion RC, I am just going to have to agree to disagree with you on this. I don't think you are a bad guy or anything just because we disagree here on this particular topic.
  8. In Arizona, yelling at people who cut you off can get you shot, usually by a gun-toating conservative with Trump political bumperstickers (and possibly Confederate flag stickers) on their pickup!
  9. I have a couple of (non-political) car stickers and I yell at people while driving lol.
  10. This question has always fascinated me. During the 2016 I became obsessed with this question and I remember one specific research paper that stuck out. First, this is a MASSIVE generalization and does not apply to everyone that chooses to or not to put a bumper sticker on their car. People who put bumper stickers on their car are, regardless of the bumper sticker's message, more likely to view their car as an extension of themselves, their personal identity, and personal space. This is why people with bumper stickers are way more likely to be involved in road rage regardless of political orientation or bumper sticker message. Conservatives are more likely to have this perspective. I do have confirmation bias on this hypothesis. As an American liberal, I do not see my car as an extension of myself, am too polite on the road to a fault, and I get annoyed when people cut me off, but my feelings usually end there (before I sound like I am saying I am some holier than thou liberal, I want to put it out there I get irrationally angry when people touch or move my shit, even if they are trying to help me). Obviously there are other reasons. Regardless of political ideology, people are more likely to put bumper stickers on their car if the sticker is more aligned to the views of the majority of the local population. For example, you are less likely to see a Trump sticker in an urban area or a Biden sticker in rural area even though those candidates may still receive 45% of the local vote. I couldn't find that journal entry, but I did find this one with some interesting findings about political bumper stickers.
  11. Isn't this the real Turing test? An AI creating a piece of good, original art (that isn't dependent on another artists song or voice or movie script or whatever) that fools 99% of the population it was made by a human?
  12. I love The Thing. I put it right up there with Alien. The special effects, the characters and the music war absolutely great. The theme song for Halloween is very iconic. It's simple, yet brilliant!
  13. Tank

    Soundtracks

I guess we can tell Walt isn't lurking anymore since he hasn't showed up to suck Michael Giacchino's wang excessively whilst calling us all stupid for not mentioning him.
  14. Anyone try calling the Vault number? I’m at episode 6 now. There’s so many references and objects that give the nod to pop culture and games. The guys sitting in front of the television was such a Beavis and Butthead homage. Episode 7 starts out with Ponchorello, from Chips.
  15. #1 I dunno, seems like a lot of gay men talk that way. Don't know if it's an affectation or maybe the result of too much estrogen affecting the vocal cords or what. There are gay men who don't talk that way. #2 happens all the time. Women do not stand a chance against men in sports, which is why men and women have separate sports events and teams. You'd never know it to watch the mainstream news, though, they all read the script they're given, and the script says it's okay for men to be in women's sports.
  16. Yesterday
  17. Right? That said... then there's this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PdsVRegEJTA
  18. Definitely a necessity. I've always wanted a canopy bed, myself.
  19. I remember some radio station playing a new AC DC song made by AI. I could hear words and guitar riffs from all of their older songs. I wasn’t all that impressed with it.
  20. yes and no. do I like the idea of being able to make a movie on my own at home? kinda. Do I like the idea of a hundred million bros making R-rated versions of Star Wars and jamming the internets up with endless terrible content? no. Am I a film classist? Probably. I'm with Hobbes in that I don't truly thing AI will ever be able to make anything GOOD on its own. It will always require human input for true creativity because it isn't true AI, it's machine learning collation based upon available models, meaning it's always going to be stealing from something a human made. Last year's writer's strike had as fighting the studios about not being allowed to replace writers with AI. We had a victory there, but the studios are doing it anyway. The problem is when the studios and the masses stop caring about innovation and originality and just want Star Wars for the billionth time, (but now as Steampunk!) it leaves working class people in the film industry out of a job. I can likely see myself using these tools to make a proof of concept for a movie to then present to others, but nothing will beat making an actual movies with real actors and artisans.
  21. I got a $200 side sleepers pillow from The Company Store
  22. I see these on my TikTok feed and they are pretty cool! However, I get the same feelings from AI as I do from knock off media like this. Some of it might be interesting, fun, or even good (like this). But at the end of the day there is a hollowness to it. Similarly, I recently learned of the new Netflix accent in which every syllable is pronounced so clear, there is no trace of an accent. I was finally able to understand why those campy Hallmark Christmas movies bother me. They are meant to be silly with generic characters, but because the characters are too perfect and (usually) do not have an accent that makes it hard for me not to not notice (kind of like in a movie set in the past where the teeth are pearly white--I can't stop looking at it).
  23. Can you imagine the movies people will be able to make with AI in 5 or 10 years as the software gets better? It's gonna be crazy!
  24. I'm supposed to hate AI for trying to take my job, but I love these sorts of things.
  25. I have seen that one. The Droids and Obi-Wan were priceless. It's sort of like the old Buck Rodgers meets James Bond style.
