Mojo Nixon, Occupancy Prophet

Posted by NumberSix , 22 November 2011 · 384 views

My attention span for headlines is far from comprehensive, so forgive me if I missed the special news report or Facebook forward where one of the several thousand official spokespersons for Occupy Something, Inc., thought of this first.

Submitted for your approval: Mojo Nixon and Skid Roper's "I Hate Banks", from their 1986 album Frenzy. Now more than ever, this song should have made a comeback, seen some heavy novelty-rock rotation, and taken advantage of the moment to become an anthem for every downtrodden customer who skipped the large print above the fine print or plain hated economics class. Truly a missed opportunity...unless it's not too late.

Note: rated PG for brief adult-hick content. Please also forgive me for linking to PowerPoint accompaniment assembled by some Mojo fan I don't know, but this was never released as a single with an official video.

As Mojo's anti-business rants went, I always preferred "Burn Down the Malls" (which did have an official video, '80s hair and all), but good luck getting the same crowd on board with that.

Apropos of nothing: welcome to my 100th Nightly.net blog entry. Special sincere thanks to anyone willing to witness whatever springs forth from my forehead at random, and to the Admins for not deleting this feature from the board software.
