That's why he never would have put the following in the movie: -Gollum's torture screams in Mordor-The 'flashback' of Sméagol and Deagol All this time the truth was right there and we didn't see it. No appearance of the actual Sauron. Just the Eye of Sauron and the mouth of Sauron. Gollum was Mordor's secret shame. They would've gone to war with Gondor without him.
